The research consortium is composed of four universities of which two are in Africa and two in Germany. The Makerere University of Uganda has likewise a long ranging research inte­rest in the Mt. Elgon region, specialized in coffee production, its ecology, agricultural diversity, and land­scape issues. At the adjacent Kenyan side of Mt. Elgon University of Kenya (nutrition) has already done pre­para­tory investi­gation in nutrition and agro-diversity in project jointly with Egerton University. The Uni­ve­r­sity of Hohenheim has expertise in tropical plant production which has been mostly acquired in long time re­search projects in South East Asia and Latin America as well as partly, for shorter terms in Africa. JLU Giessen (agri.econ.) has worked for several years on resource economics, farming diversity, and nutrition security.
